Horses and other harmless creatures

A few nights before Mary and Henry's wedding, there was an out-of-towners event for the Canadian guests. Mary's niece Mia was enthralled by the neighbors' (very small) horse, so we brought Kyle over for a look. He was intrigued...

...but ultimately afraid.

He may be big, but this is not a tough kid. Kyle's fear of harmless creatures was also clear when he met the innkeeper's very old, very thin cat:

Thibau

While in Switzerland, Kyle got to meet his friend Thibau, as well as Thibau's parents Sam and Martine and Thibau's Tante Stephanie.

We spent a wonderful afternoon swimming in Thibau's pool,

playing with Thibau's toys,

and of course having the great Swiss experience of visiting the cows at the farm down the street.

Air travel

Kyle was a doll during most of the flight to Switzerland.

Still, no one slept much crossing the Atlantic, and we arrived in Zurich feeling pretty tired. Good thing that Kyle, given the gift of a new, colorful plastic spoon, found a game to keep himself busy on the floor at the airport while we waited for Tante Laure Anne to pick us up.

Sorry, no sound in this video, but the game was pure bliss and lasted a long time!

Tractors

While in the UK for Mary's wedding, we stayed at a lovely B&B on the outskirts of Guildford. While everyone appreciated the beautiful old building, the horses, and the lush countryside, Kyle was especially excited about the tractors. Even ones that were parked and not running. Long, very excited conversations with the tractor were a big part of each of the 3 days we spent in Guildford.

Walking!

There's still a backlog of photos for me to post here, but I wanted to interrupt the flow to let everyone know that, this evening (the eve of his first birthday), Kyle started to walk like a champ:

Kyle in July

On the move

It's hard to catch Kyle on film when he's moving so fast!

Literally on the move, in the car:

At the end of a busy activity-filled day:

Swimming in the Whale Pool

A refreshing way to spend a summer evening with Kyle's "girlfriend" (our neighbor).

Fake Dogs!?

We forgot to tell Kyle that this dog at Buck's Restaurant in Woodside was a statue, not the real thing.

Kyle's First Baseball Game

On July 3, Kyle brought good luck to the Giants who beat the Astros 13-0. They also put on great pre-Forth-of-July fireworks show that Kyle adored.
