Express Yourself

We're seeing a lot of smiles these days. Also a lot of different expressions: pouting, raised eyebrows, lip-biting...








I can't even begin to understand the faces Kyle was making this one evening, nor why he was so excited/agitated. The faces in this movie are that much funnier because Kyle seems to have no ears in them (this is due to the camera angle as well as the size of his cheeks).

My colleague Mike calls this the "OSV" for overstimulation vehicle. Kyle calls it heaven.

San Diego

Kyle recently survived his first flight when he and Grandma Dale accompanied me on a trip to San Diego. We all had a great time (this wasn't hard given the sun and the ocean).

Babbling

Kyle continues to babble a lot and is now in a more "experimental" phase where he also tries out things like squealing, lip smacking, coughing, etc. to make noise.

Kyle has discovered his fingers. He looks at them a lot, links them together, and of course, shoves them in his mouth




Kyle also wants desperately to start sitting up. Here is documentation of his performance ever - sitting himself up in the vibrating chair (a lot easier than on flat ground) and ducking his head under the toy bar:



One of Kyle and Eric's favorite games, "Sit up and eat Papa's fingers," combines these two cute new tricks:

Stanford Basketball

Kyle caught his first college basketball game (ASU at Stanford) on January 2. We were worried that the noise and crowds would be too much for him, but Kyle had a great time, and especially loved the band. The Stanford men had a much less enjoyable evening, losing 60-90 after what had previously been an undefeated season.

Kyle: updates and role models

At his four-month checkup, Kyle weighed 16lbs, 14 oz and was 26.5" long. This is large, which is great for the most part, but also means that we have to start thinking about him growing out of more than just clothes - the baby car seat goes to 29", the "Exersaucer" goes to 30"...

Meanwhile, a friend just met a baby named Kyle whose favorite activity is picking up trash around the house (and putting it in the trash bin, not his mouth). Hmmm, this could be useful...

Also, a recent NY Times article about skateboarders playing in drained pools of foreclosed homes featured a picture of "Kyle the Dude" trying a maneuver.
